According to Computerworld, this is certainly the case for General Motors (GM), which sees an external IT service as vital to its growth.
GM has recently streamlined its IT department to no longer rely on various contractors to provide support for in-house teams.
Organising IT support was a considerable job and required a bureaucracy in itself.
However, outsourcing the department has taken away this administrative headache and with one main firm supplying IT support, GM can continue with its primary business function.
Lisa Gage, a director for a GM group, told Computerworld: "We are in the business of building cars and trucks.
"We shouldn't be spending tons of time trying to manage tons of IT suppliers."
A large number of firms are choosing to outsource IT support in London and throughout the UK.
Outsourcing an IT department can improve the efficiency and productivity of a business in addition to providing increased capacity to expand.
