EPAM Systems, LLC is Selected by Aberdeen Group to Represent Best Practices in Offshore Software Outsourcing
Sep 11, 2002
Princeton, NJ, September 1, 2002 - EPAM Systems, LLC, a U.S. software services supplier with development facilities in Minsk, Belarus and Moscow, Russia, has named by Aberdeen Group, a leading market analysis and positioning services firm, as one of the most compelling examples of successful offshore service delivery for its special report on "Best Practices in Offshore Outsourcing" released on September 4, 2002.
The Aberdeen Group selected EPAM Systems, along with 14 other service providers, for its implementation of a complex e-commerce website for West Group, part of the Thomson Corporation. The site was built from the ground up using proven server, search, e-commerce and customer self-service technology to create an exceptional customer experience. The project was singled out for its e-commerce focus and collaborative nature.
The report points out that, "Although legacy application migration, enhancement, and management services constitute a significant majority of offshore outsourcing projects, the number of Web development and other complex application initiatives in the sector is increasing." Representing another stage in the evolution of offshore outsourcing, these projects are based on the same fundamental principles and practices that have always guided successful software development efforts: executive sponsorship; stakeholder participation; experienced and dedicated project management; clear, skilled resources; well-documented requirements and project plans; and rigorous processes tempered by flexible approaches in the face of continuous change. Adding language and cultural differences and spreading participants across several time zones make complex projects all the more challenging. Nevertheless, as West Group and EPAM's experience illustrates, these hurdles can be overcome, given the right combination of planning, collaborative processes, and technical and project management skills on the part of both the client and service supplier."
"We are proud to be selected by Aberdeen Group to represent best practices in offshore software outsourcing," said Arkadiy Dobkin, President of EPAM Systems. "The West Group case is an excellent example of how the outsourcing model works in large, complex application development projects where quality, speed and value are required."
