Third Annual Survey on Russian Export Software Market

Structure of respondent Exporters

Most respondents (81%) were companies employing less than 120 people. But such companies account for a small part of total Russian software development exports - roughly 50% of export income is generated by companies with more than 300 employees. However, small companies grow quickly, and represent much hope for the future of the sector.

Comparing of the approximate distribution by employee numbers of all of Russia's software companies shows that the selection matches general trends for this indicator as well.

Only 18% of survey participants have insignificant export earnings as a percentage of total turnover. The majority of these companies are most likely just starting to enter markets abroad. Responses that contained no indication of export earnings were not processed, since the companies in question - more than 15 in total - are not exporters. Such companies' activity is also worth noting, since developers oriented to the domestic market are interested in export opportunities. As a result, the total number of exporters may grow. For example, many programming products in constant demand on the Russian market could - mutatis mutandis - be sold abroad.
